Strange Clicking Noises
Clicking noises coming from wooden walls indicate a termite infestation. Termites tend to bang their body on the wood when they sense danger, explaining the source of the sound. They do so to signal other termites of impending danger, like when the colony is troubled. Their antennae and tibia have sensitive organs and cells that allow them to sense even the smallest vibrations.
In most cases, they eat away materials from inside, leaving it hollow. Thus, you will hear a hollow sound upon knocking on the affected wooden parts. Wood also produces papery sounds when termites are eating it away. The papery sound is produced when you hit the thin wooden layer left behind. You will also notice cracks on wood, wooden ceiling or cornices due to termite infestation.
Termite Wings Near Light Bulbs
Termites shed off their wings when they settle after flying away from the nest. Some fly at night and some during the day as they leave their homes to find mates. You might not see them flying at night, but they will leave behind wings near light bulbs indicating their presence.
Doors May Get Stuck
Wooden doors and windows may not function as expected due to termite damage. Termites eat away frames and wood from inside out, and sometimes it is hard to realise it. That is because they leave the top wood layer or cover intact as they eat the interior.
Blisters, Mud Tubes, and Holes on Flooring
Termites' damage on laminate flooring and skirting boards manifest in the sagging or blistering of these structures. The floor may also have holes with mud tubes on the concrete or wooden floor that may also feel more spongy than normal. These holes signify that termites have a colony underneath, requiring the intervention of termite control experts.
Droppings
Another important sign of termite infestation is their droppings. These droppings are particularly noticeable in the case of dry wood termite infestation. These termites rarely use their droppings to create tunnels, unlike subterranean termites. Instead, they will place their droppings near the entrances to the nest. Therefore, when you notice black marks or powdery material, it is time to call a termite control service.
Termite control starts with inspection using manual or chemical methods that provide evidence of termite infestation. Professional termite control specialists have the right skills and experience to inspect and control termites.
